Protective Fire Systems
The Ministerial Decree of February 16, 2007 introduced new methods in Italy for the qualification of the resistance of protective systems for structural elements, be they steel structures, reinforced concrete, wood or mixed.
Since then, CSI has specialized in offering a testing and certification service of these systems, for example: intumescent paints and passive protective systems such as refractory plaster or rigid (coated plaster slabs or similar).
CSI’s Italian laboratory is authorised by the Ministry of the Interior by Ministerial Decree 2.16.2007 to perform tests and is able to elaborate performance schedules in accordance with the new methods provided for in the European standards EN 13381 series.
Since 2007, CSI is the only Italian fire resistance laboratory that performs tests to qualify the fire resistance of protective systems for structural elements.
Standard UNI EN 13381-8, in its latest 2013 version, is the reference point for the characterizing of reactive systems, such as intumescent paint, applied to steel.
Also non-reactive protective systems for steel supports such as concrete based mortars (open and closed profile), the reference standard is UNI EN 13381-4: 2013.
Standard UNI EN 13381-3: 2002 is instead the unique reference used to qualify concrete structural element protective systems.
For all these services CSI is an accredited institution in accordance with UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025.
In detail, CSI offers the testing and certification service for the following systems:
• Protective membranes (UNI EN 13381-1:2014);
• Protective systems, passive and reactive, reinforced concrete structures (UNI EN 13381-3:2002);
• Passive systems for the protection of steel structural elements (UNI EN 13381-4: 2013);
• Reactive Systems (intumescent paints) for the protection of steel structural elements (UNI EN 13381-8: 2013).
