Marine Equipment Directive (MED)
Marine Equipment Directive 96/98 /EC (MED) sets up that marine equipment can only be installed on board ships flying the flag of an EU country, if it is marked with the MED mark of conformity.
In order to ensure compliance of such equipment with the regulations of the International Conventions SOLAS, references issued by the IMO (International Maritime Organization), common standards were issued, in reference to the procedures for safety and compliance with the performance characteristics, in all EU countries.
CSI is Notified Body by the European Community through the recognition of the Italian Administration to issue EC Certificates for marine equipment; CSI is also recognized by the Coast Guard of the United States (US Coast Guard).
CSI as Notified Body number 0497, offers its experience through testing and certification services for all the requirements of Directive 98/96 /EC, as amended, with particular reference to the tests of reaction to fire, toxicity and smoke opacity, as well as the final release of the CE mark (wheelmark).
